Boutique hotel. If you like authentic style of Montreal you will love this place. We do. We have been coming back for eight years. Not just for the ambiance but also the friendly helpful staff. My wife travels to Montreal for business and even when she travels alone and stays here I know she is safe and cared for unlike many multi-national hotels where you are just a room number. The ONLY reason for 4 stars not 5 is that it is only accessible by stairs.
I found it to be a hotel of characters in Montreal downtown area, with close proximity to art galleries and other attractions in the area. The exterior of the building has many architectural details, and the interior decoration features antique sewing machine heads and sculptures, which might be a reflection of the good old time when the sewing was more of a necessity. The room was neat and clean. Reception desk staff was courteous and professional. The housekeeping was flawless. The only drawback perhaps was that I wasn't able to find an elevator, possibly due to the age of the building. But the porter service took care of our luggage, so no worries.
For us everything was fine with this hotel. Good breakfast, wifi and clean rooms.
Lovely looking hotel. We were in the basement which meant everytime someone flushed their toilet or turned a tap on we got the loud noise of the pipes all night long. Our toilet was continually blocked. Our view from the window was a brick wall, so always dark. The continental breakfast was OK but the afternoon tea and biscuits was a bit sparse. Just one type of biscuit. OK for a couple of nights but ask for a room that's not in the basement
